Kingsway Mall Rings in Chinese New Year

When it comes to mall celebrations of Chinese New Year, Kingsway Mall does it right. Just their 2nd event ever, this year’s 2020 Lunar New Year Celebration was a success.

Disclaimer: Yegventures posts on Instagram for this event were sponsored by Kingsway Mall.

Kingsway Mall went out of their way to accommodate the growing tradition across our city. This year, they opened up one of the CHROMAYEG spaces in addition to their main hallway connecting the central court with the mainstage court in front of Homesense.

Here’s a video of some of the events which took place on Sunday.

Unlike some other celebrations which are often magnets for banking and insurance sales, Kingsway Mall worked directly with the Chinese Benevolent Association to organize this cultural experience with family-friendly entertainment

Throughout Kingsway Mall were various activities to participate in, including Chinese chess, mahjong, making New Year greetings, trying on a Cantonese lion costume, and so on.

The mainstage was a non-stop performance stage showcasing cultural performances and the official program with dignitaries. This year were MLAs Thomas Dang and Rakhi Pancholi, Councillors Jon Dziadyk and Bev Esslinger, and Public School Trustee Nathan Ip. Also to note was that the host for the official program was none other than beautiful Adrienne Pan.

Here’s Nathan Ip speaking about the role of EPSB, which was the first in the country to begin a Chinese language program.

The CHROMAYEG space was setup for more children’s activities which included a puppet stage, crafts, and other events.

Outside of the fact that Kingsway Mall sponsored Instagram posts on Yegventures, it was a really a great celebration of Chinese New Year!

As part of the Lunar New Year celebration promotion, from Jan 16th – Feb 2nd, receive 5% back in bonus gift cards when you purchase a gift card valued at $200 or more. There’s no tax on gift cards, so it’s like receiving the GST amount back, which is cool, especially on larger purchases (or multiple purchases throughout the year). Kingsway Mall customer service also now accepts gift card payments by AliPay and WeChat. More details at kingswaymall.com
